The DeGregorio Family Foundation is dedicated to the many DeGregorio family members who have lost their lives to Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer (HDGC). First and foremost, it honors my father William A. DeGregorio, M.D., but also my sister Eileen Dounce, PhD, my grandmother Rachel D’Agnes, my Uncle Frankie, my Uncle Charlie, my Aunt Olivia, my Aunt Christina, as well as all my cousins and other relations who have died due to HDGC. It is further dedicated, with all my sympathy, to families everywhere who suffer with this horrible disease.
The DeGregorio Family Foundation was founded in 2006 by Wall Street executive Lynn DeGregorio after the devastating loss of family members to a hereditary form of gastric cancer. Two decades on, it has become a critical catalyst for innovation in a field historically underfunded and overlooked.
The model is simple and transparent: take in donations, accept applications worldwide, have a Scientific Advisory Board of experts score them using the same process as the NIH, and make grants. The volunteer Board covers overhead so that 100% of funds raised go to research.
